About Shoilee Khan

Experienced Writer, Coach, Consultant

Welcome to this misty corner of the woods where I write, dream, share, and listen to stories. When I’m not spinning stories from the light in the leaves, I’m intent on bringing your stories to life through the art of editing, teaching, critique, and analysis. As an editor, educator, and academic with over 20 years of experience writing and editing fiction, non-fiction, and academic manuscripts, I am invigorated by stories and the people who want to tell them.

My work has appeared in a diverse collection of magazines and journals including The Malahat Review, The Ex-Puritan, Room, The New Quarterly and others. My short fiction appears in the Toronto Book Award nominated short story collection The Unpublished City (Book*hug 2017), has been longlisted for the CBC short fiction prize, nominated for the Journey Prize, and won the Other Voices fiction contest. My academic work appears in Confluences 2 (Mawenzi 2017) and has been featured in both academic and creative conferences worldwide.

I’m currently a PhD candidate specializing in disaster narratives, earned my MFA in Creative Writing from the University of Guelph, and my MA in English Literature from the University of Toronto.

When I’m not reading or writing, I’m flitting from my latest hobby (crocheting, watercolour painting, printmaking, sewing, beading, bookmaking, and a multitude of others!) to my latest streaming obsession (most recently Portrait Artist of the Year and BBC’s Little Dorrit) to deep-diving into my latest “fact-fascination” (what happens to all the bodies left behind on Mount Everest?). I’m curious and hungry (usually for cake!) and am eager to continue learning through the gift of art.

Thank you for stopping by my woodland corner—let’s huddle by the fire and make stories (and s’mores) together.

Wishing you well,
